In honor of National Print Day, today I give you a post about the Kyle Durrie's Moveable Type Truck!

The Moveable Type Truck is a mobile print shop built into the back of a 1982 Chevy step van. On her website, Kyle explains that she "spent ten months in 2011-2012 traveling all over North America, sharing the good word about printing the old fashioned way."

Kyle Durrie is also the proprietor of Power and Light Press, currently based out of Portland, but soon relocating to New Mexico.

Learn more about Power and Light Press at www.powerandlightpress.com; and, more specifically, about the Moveable Type Truck at www.type-truck.com.

The Type Truck was parked outside the San Francisco Main Library today from 1-4 pm. Visitors were invited to step inside and print something of their own on Kyle's tabletop press!

and per se and

For today's post, one of my favorite words: ampersand. Today I read a great little article on the ampersand and its origin. I knew "ampersand" came from "and per se and," but I didn't know why. Below, an excerpt.

The word “ampersand” came many years later when “&” was actually part of the English alphabet. In the early 1800s, school children reciting their ABCs concluded the alphabet with the &. It would have been confusing to say “X, Y, Z, and.” Rather, the students said, “and per se and.” “Per se” means “by itself,” so the students were essentially saying, “X, Y, Z, and by itself and.” Over time, “and per se and” was slurred together into the word we use today: ampersand.

Of all the fantastic art and design I see every day, nothing has made me smile as genuinely as this: Child's Own Studio, where stuffed animals are created from a child's drawing. Look at the images. Need I say more?

Press 65 is back from vacation and the first post-Brazil blog post is this: retrofuturistic computer keyboards!

Aside from a great descriptive slogan, USB Typewriter provides an awesome way to  merge your modern technology with your love for the old!

If the the typewriters available in his Etsy shop are not really your style, fret not. Also available is a DIY kit for converting your favorite typewriter into a USB keyboard. Super :)

“The smell of a freshly printed book is the best smell in the world.” Karl Lagerfeld

I completely agree. Which is why I loved the idea of the new fragrance "Paper Passion." The perfume is designed by Geza Schoen and Gerhard Steidl for book lovers, and smells like a freshly printed book. The packaging, designed by Karl Lagerfeld and Steidl, is also quite fantastic.

Check it out here.
